How can God justify the wicked

Over and over we say, “God saved us”

But, God saved us from what?

2 Corinthians 5:10-11 says,
“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are well known to God, and I also trust are well known in your consciences.”

What does ‘terror of the Lord’ mean?
God is so Holy that He cannot tolerate sin at all and His fierce anger is going to come upon all those who are lawless.

What needs to be done to escape God’s wrath?

The one-and-only-one-way is to repent from our sins and trust in Jesus and live a life worthy of Him and examine our lives on daily basis. God loves us so much but at the same time He cannot deny Himself for He is holy and cannot tolerate sin. Hence, He reconciled us through Jesus by His death on the cross. Christ paid the price for our sins, by shedding his precious sinless blood for us.

1 Peters 1: 18-19 says,
“… you were not redeemed with corruptible things,
like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

Colosians 1:20 says,
“…and through Him (Jesus) to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

Romans 5:9
“Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

In this way God saved us from Himself and for Himself!

  • If only we repent and continue to live in Him and
  • Walk a life worthy of Him and
  • Live in a continuous process of being transformed into His likeness by confessing each of our weaknesses
as we have the promise of boldly coming before His throne to obtain forgiveness of our sins.

Hebrew 14:16
Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

And in all these God also saved us from condemnation of sin, the power of sin and hell itself! But through Jesus, God primarily saved us from Himself and for Himself!

  1. I don’t think it is fair or accurate to say God saved us from Himself. Matthew 1.21 says His name is Jesus because He saved us from our sins. It would be more appropriate to say that God saved us for Himself or to himself.

  2. Hi Bro. Ben,
I appreciate your comments and thank you for having a look at it.
But time and again the Bible says that on the Judgement day the wrath of God will come upon those evil. Away from Christ we cannot be saved in Him we have salvation.
Anyways I agree to your point and slightly modified my blog. Thanks!

    Stay blessed

  3. Hi there,

Thanks for your gracious reply to my comment on your post…

I am not denying the wrath of God. If you read my current blog post on Romans 1.18-32 you will see that I am aware that the wrath of God is upon all unrighteousness.

However, I prefer to consider that Jesus came to save us from unrighteousness rather than from God. God does not want to judge unrighteousness which is why He sent Jesus to pay the price with His death and resurrection.

God is not angry with the world – propitiation has been made.

I know it is a subtle distinction, but I think it has major implications on how we see God the Father.

    Blessings,
    Ben

  4. What a great conversation, disagreement, yet fellowship. there is hope! Carry on!
Is it OK if I agree with you both? We need saving, God is in control, he sent salvation, woe to the unrepentant. All sounds true to me.

  5. 🙂
We must also not forget, how Holy God is! Because of His holiness He cannot deny Himself and His hatred towards sinners and His wrath that is going to come upon all the the wicked.
There is no doubt that we are not perfect, But we are in the umbrella of Jesus being renewed into His likeness and allowing God to continue to work out His super natural work of salvation through His Holy Spirit.

Away from Christ and away from walking in Father’s will, the only thing left is wrath of God!
